Book Review : Where We Belong

"Time to see where the current takes me."

That was one of the most memorable lines from one of the characters of this book. To start off, let me say that this book definitely tugged at my heartstrings and made me question my moral judgment. Mostly though, it made me appreciate what I had and made me realize how unpleasant I probably (okay not probably, really was) during my early adolescent years. So thank you Emily Giffin for yet another heartwarming story :)

The characters and the circumstances feel very real that for a moment you tend to forget this is merely fiction. I guess this si one aspect of this book, and Emily Giffin's books in general that is likable. They are not your conventional love stories, comedies, or tragedies. They show you what kind of problems real people face in life.

In this book, the story actually centers on two characters. I found it refreshing and a little familiar. Refreshing because the characters were telling stories that I myself went through or envision myself going through when I get that age. As to Kirby's side, I completely got why she felt so lost. She was a teenager about to go on another change in her life without fully knowing who she is. As to Marian's side, I felt a bit scared because I sensed a lot of similarities between the two of us and I did not really want to be a single woman struggling with her heart at age 36. :P And, I found the story-telling a little familiar because the author used the same style with her previously released book Heart of the Matter, which is also very good! :)

In general, I truly could understand the difficulties both of them faced. But some of my most memorable moments in the book are:
1. Kirby and Philip :)
2. The revelation between Marian and her father
3. The happy after graduation party
4. Kirby's reconciliation with Belinda
5. The ending with Marian and Conrad

And just as I say that, I mean it:) I truly loved the ending because it was not the cliche ending of a love story where "they lived happily ever after" even after all the sour years in between them. It was relatable and it was inspiring. :)

Where We Belong
by
Emily Giffin

This is her 6th novel! :D

So if you're the kind who wants to indulge in a love story but is tired of the predictable ending with the common "boy meets girl" plot, I recommend you pick this piece up. It will give you the satisfaction of that tingling feeling of fresh romance while reminding you that you actually have a life to live. :)

And at the same time, and most of all my favorite part, it imparts on you certain pieces of knowledge of the heart :)

Shout out to the author! :) If you haven't heard of her, visit her site here : Emily Giffin

Enjoy the weekend! :)

I know it's not just nostalgia
making me feel gunny inside."
