Art Filed : Historical Figure

I DO NOT OWN THIS PHOTOGRAPH

This photograph was taken sometime in 1885 in Paris, France. That was the year the Statue of Liberty was completed in Paris and disassembled for shipment to New York and re-assembly there. It was a gift from the French to the Americans. I'm not a history buff but when I learned about this piece of information and saw this photograph of the statue, I just got excited. I guess it's the feeling I get that it's as if I were there at that time. It's kind of creepy, I know.

But because I am a fan of intricate details, I love the fact that this statue was built out of pure metal. I am completely astonished by how its architects came up with the structure and the concept for the material to use. I saw the statue a few years back and I was just overwhelmed by its size. But it is not just that, it's the incredible details etched into it. Of course up close I could only see the bottom part of the statue. but that was enough for me to appreciate the work that went into carving out the metal. Looking  closely at her toes and the seam of her dress, you could actually see the fine division of the creases in the dress and the lines of her toes like they were real. Of course, they didn't look that real because the metal was already green. But still, had it not been green, she would have looked like a real person in the size of ten submarines, that was solidified by the frigid air. It's incredible actually.

Today, 250 years later, this same statue still stands high and mighty on Liberty Island in the state of New York.

But I guess what many people don't know is that this statue has sisters in other parts of the world. :) TRIVIA! haha. Well I guess if you're French you would have known this, but hey, never too late to learn anything:)

While the architects working on this statue was experimenting with its scale, they built several models in miniature. Two of these are now situated in Paris. One is in the Jardin du Luxembourg, and another is by the Seine River. Well, while doing research I actually found other replicas have been made of this around France, but these two were the original replicas :p

So if you're travelling to France, now's a good time to ask for a tour where you could see these statues:). What's more fascinating is that there is another replica of this statue in Brazil. Yes, Brazil. I'm not sure how and why, but it is an even smaller version of the miniatures in Paris. :)

To the people of USA, this symbolizes their freedom. To the people of France, the huge statue and these miniatures symbolize the greatness of French architecture. To me as a patron of the arts, it serves as inspiration. Though there may be differences in achieving such a goal these days, I don't think this should be a problem if you're equipped with an equal amount of dedication. :)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Focus on the intricate details,
but don't forget about the macro perspective.
